Description
A pekin duck gently sipping the water during its evening swim at the local lake here in Pfafftown, North Carolina. This is one of the 3 of them that usually can be seen at the park.
The American Pekin is mainly raised for its meat but is also used for eggs as they are consistent, quality egg layers.
They are known to be one of the most popular breeds kept in the United States both in the backyard and on homesteads. Most Pekins are large and white with orange beaks. These hearty, friendly birds were bred specifically for meat and egg production and have become almost synonymous with the word duck today. They are calm-natured and a little bit skittish, but they make excellent pets due to their unique personalities and overall durability.
