Description
A ring-billed gull which is sometimes called a "seagull" by itself on the dock at the local marina. This particular gull was by himself while there about 50-60 on the next dock over. I went with a black and white style for this shot as I felt it captured the mood.
I usually find these gulls in the wintertime at various lakes. Sometimes I will see them with other species of gulls as well. In addition to finding them at lakes and beaches you can also find them at or near garbage dumps and light poles near shopping centers and fast-food restaurants.
Many, if not most, Ring-billed Gulls return to breed at the colony where they hatched. Once they have bred, they are likely to return to the same breeding spot each year, often nesting within a few meters of the last year's nest site. Many individuals return to the same wintering sites each winter too
