Description
A serene trumpeter swan is seen preening its feathers while afloat on a calm body of water. This graceful trumpeter swan with its elegant neck bent towards its body creates a picture of tranquility amidst a natural backdrop.
As the largest waterfowl species alive today, the trumpeter swan also holds the records for being the heaviest and longest native bird of North America. Males can weigh up to 26 pounds and measure 6 feet in length.
The bird's name comes from its loud and somewhat musical cry, which resembles a trumpet sound.
These swans nest on remote wetlands in Alaska, Canada, and the northwestern U.S., and spend the winter on coastal and inland waters that are free of ice.
